The company was promoted by M/s. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd with a 50% Equity Stake along with M/s. ICICI Bank Limited (formerly known as ICICI Limited) – with 35% equity stake, M/s. ICICI Venture Funds Ltd (formerly known as TDICI) – with 10% Equity stake and M/s. HDFC Limited with 5% Equity stake, for exploration and production of oil & natural gas and activities related thereto. The formation of this company was duly approved by the Government of India, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas vide letter no: R-30024/46/96/MC dated 6th July 1998. The company was duly incorporated on 28th October 1998.
